Bridge to Dreams reconnects Regency resident to her love of skating
Ruth has always had a love of skating.
It is great exercise and challenges your brain. Then there are the costumes, glamour, and the artistry. Ruth loves them all.
Now thanks to a resident-centred program implemented at Regency Long-Term Care Home in Port Hope, Ruth was once again able to experience her love of the sport.
Ruth, with the help of Regency staff, attended the “Thank you Canada Ice Skating Tour,” which took place on Nov. 9, 2018 at the Peterborough Memorial Center. Her daughter joined her at the event where they got to see Scott Moir, Tessa Virtue, Elvis Stojko and Patrick Chan among other Canadian skaters perform.
Ruth said it was a dream come true. But the dream wasn’t quite finished. She also attended the Meet & Greet, where she got to chat and receive hugs from Tessa Virtue, along with a signed sweater and lots of photos.
Operated by Southbridge Care Homes, Regency Manor implemented Bridge to Dreams, a resident-centered initiative developed by Southbridge Care Homes in partnership with the home. Bridge to Dreams encourages seniors to rekindle their passions and encourages them to celebrate life to the fullest.
“The Bridge to Dreams program is a purposeful way for us to honour our residents in meaningful ways, and together with the direct support of staff, we were able to do just that,” remarked Keith McIntosh, Chief Executive Officer of Southbridge Care Homes.
Regency is home to 60 long-term care residents in Port Hope, Ontario.
